  1. Authors' Guideline

The JOVM is a video-based Journal publishing research articles both in textual and visual formats. Among the types of electronic resources that are currently available to researchers as publishing and communication tools, "video articles" are a new way of publishing scientific findings. Publishing video articles allows the audience to objectively observe what has been done in a scientific research, instead of reading to gain a deeper understanding of the research topic. The (video) Manuscripts submited to the journal are accepted based on their peer-review validity and usefulness for the scientific community, after the final approval of the reviewers and  considering the ability to provide detailed information about how to conduct a certain research method. Coherence and clarity of presentation, compliance with research standards, technical quality and its overall impact are considered as evaluation criteria of the reviewers. Therefore, in order to better evaluate the submitted content, it is very important to provide accurate information in the submitted forms. The final decision to publish will rest with the editor.

 2. Evaluation Process

The articles are reviewed in the order of the date they are received. The article is sent to the editor for a structural review and is then discussed about in the editorial board meeting. After the initial approval it is reviewed by at least three experts in the relevant field, in the form of double blind peer review. The statistical review of the articles It is carried out by a statistician. The editorial board of the journal is free to reject or accept the articles and, if necessary, will inform the author of its corrective and advisory opinions for re-examination between two weeks and one month from the date the article was received. The corresponding author is required to submit the revised article along with the necessary answers within two weeks at most. If the journal does not respond within 6 months, the article can be withdrawn and send elsewhere if the authors wish so.

 3. Ethical Code

The ethical policy of this journal is based on the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and complies with the Code of Conduct of the Editorial Board of the International Committee of Journals. According to the approach of the Smart University of Medical Sciences to produce and publish correct and original scientific information, the publication of any article in the journal is subject to compliance with ethical standards. Publication ethics is based on the principles and rules approved by the Committee on Publication Ethics. Also, based on the commitment to international conventions such as the guidelines of the International Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE), and the World Association of Medical Editors (WAME), JOVM journal is obliged to comply with the principles values of professional ethics. Submitting to JOVM journal means that all the people named as authors have read and agreed with the content of the submitted work and that the policy of the journal has been considered in submitting the work.

 4. Human Subjects

Research on humans, human tissue, or human data must be conducted in accordance with the Declaration of Helsinki and must also be approved by an appropriate ethics committee. Since journal articles... contain video and text components, in all studies involving human subjects, it is necessary to obtain informed consent from all adult participants in the study, as well as for video screening. Also, the authors must declare that their research was conducted in compliance with all institutional, national and international guidelines for human welfare. Also, if the editors of the journal come to the conclusion that the research was not conducted in the proper ethical framework, the submitted work may be rejected. Journal editors may also contact the ethics committee of the relevant institution for more information in specific cases. In the case of minors and children, consent should be obtained from their legal guardian. It is necessary to mention the source confirming the ethical consideration of the study. These considerations should be clearly explained in the research method section of the study.

 5. Patient Consent and Confidentiality Principles

Any work submitted to JOVM that contains personal medical information about an identifiable living person requires the consent of that person before it can be published. Therefore, all studied patients are required to sign an informed consent form after reading the relevant study information sheet. If it is not possible to obtain consent because the desired patient cannot be found in a study, publication of the work will only be possible if the information remains sufficiently anonymous. Anonymous means that neither the person nor anyone else can reliably identify the person. The use of images such as radiographic stereotypes, laparoscopic images, ultrasound images, pathology slides, or images of body parts in a non-identifying manner is allowed without consent, when any identification marks are removed and there is no accompanying text that shows the identity of the patient.

 6. Research Involving Animals

Because JOVM articles contain both video and text components, authors must obtain written permission to display animals from the review groups overseeing their studies. This permission may be in the form of a letter from the animal use committee or similar. For protocols using live animals (i.e., vertebrates and higher invertebrates), authors must state that all experiments were performed in accordance with relevant regulatory guidelines. Also, when using laboratory animals, it is necessary to mention the relevant standard regulations. The Basel Declaration outlines the basic principles of conducting animal research, and the International Council on Laboratory Animal Science (ICLAS) has also published ethical guidelines.

 7. Clinical Trial Registration

According to the ICMJE recommendation, a clinical trial is defined as: "Any type of research work that prospectively compares individuals or a group of individuals with or without a comparison group or a concurrent control, in order to study the cause-and-effect relationship between a health-oriented intervention and a health outcome, assigned to an intervention." All clinical trial studies must be registered on the clinical trial website at www.irct.ir after obtaining the approval of the ethics committee and receive the relevant code. Mentioning the 16-digit ID number of the clinical trial license obtained from the IRCT system is mandatory.

 8. Required Consents

Due to the video and text nature of the submitted articles, the author is obliged to obtain explicit permissions and written consents from the relevant individuals and institutions and centers for all animal, human and veterinary subjects in order to display and publish on the journal's website.

 9. Plagiarism

Authors are not permitted to use the verbatim text of previously published articles or texts written elsewhere. All submitted articles are checked for possible similarity in each part of the text by the similarity search software proposed by the Ministry of Health or Ithenticate. Based on the level of plagiarism detected, the article is returned to the authors and they are asked to rewrite the copied passages or insert them as direct quotations with references. In cases where plagiarism is detected, the flowchart and COPE instructions are applied.

 10. Register a New Manuscript

When you submit your manuscript, include a low-resolution (<50MB) version of your video. If you choose the author-produced video option, make sure you can produce and submit a high-quality video that follows the journal's guidelines.

 11. The Process of Recording and Filming in Cooperation with the Journal

If it is not possible for the author(s) to record and film the topic under study, they must present their idea in the form of a written article and after it is reviewed by the editorial board or reviewers and after obtaining the necessary permits from the relevant centers, upon the request of the author(s) and researcher(s) a cameraman is sent by the journal to the authorized center requested by the author(s) to film their activities. Writers must provide all the necessary conditions and circumstances, including making and preparing laboratory reagents, ensuring that the instruments are operational, having a suitable laboratory, and ensuring the availability of experimental subjects for filming. In case of delay, laboratory activity breakdown or need to re-shoot due to lack of organization of the authors, the journal reserves the right to charge the filming costs of the relevant days. After filming, the footage will be sent to the journal's video editing studio, and professional voiceover, text and graphics, and English translation will be added as subtitles. Once an initial edit is done, writers can review the video to make sure their method is properly displayed. Any necessary scientific changes will be incorporated into the video by them. After the final approval by the authors, the video and text article will be published on the journal's website.

 12. Review of the Prepared Video

After sending the text of the manuscript along with the video version with low resolution (less than 50 MB), the manuscript along with the submitted video will be reviewed by the editorial board and the content production staff of the journal. This review could take several weeks. After accepting the manuscript, for the research that are of interest to the journal, filming and video production will be conducted by JOVM. Authors whose research is not commissioned by the journal must produce and submit their video in accordance with the video production guidelines. These videos will be reviewed twice to meet the criteria set for video recording. If the text and video meet the journal's guidelines, both the text and the full-resolution version of the video will be sent to reviewers for review (authors are asked to submit the full-resolution version for this purpose). In case of acceptance, the video and text article will be published on the website of the video journal.

 13. Types of articles that are considered for publication in JoVM journal

These articles have components of original research articles. Unstructured review articles must include the title page, abstract, introduction, review method and conclusion and have at least 25 sources and be a maximum of 5000 words. The abstract of these articles is also unstructured and has an introduction, conclusion and keywords. Article information includes: acknowledgments, authors' contributions, financial resources, data availability, ethical considerations, conflict of interest.

c. Case report:

These articles should include medical novelties, very rare complications of common diseases or unexpected responses to common treatments. The report should have a practical benefit and include a summary of the introduction, case description, discussion and references. Necessary documentation related to the case or cases such as pathological reports, laboratory results and photographs should be attached when submitting the article. In addition, it is mandatory to send a consent form from the patient or patients. The abstract of these articles is also unstructured (introduction and keywords). The case report must be documented and concise. The case report manuscript should be prepared as follows: title, unstructured abstract, keywords, introduction, case report, discussion, conclusion, references, tables, figure captions, figures (upload separately), list of appendices, appendices (upload separately).

d) Methodologies/Methods Paper:

This type of paper should present a new method, test or experimental process. The proposed method can be completely new or a better version of an existing method. In this type of article, a new development and change should be presented compared to what is currently available, and its correctness or appropriateness must be described and tested. The purpose of these types of articles is to provide methods that can be replicated by other researchers, so it is necessary to provide sufficient information on the proposed new or improved method or methodology to ensure its feasibility. In this regard, instead of focusing on the results obtained, it is necessary to focus more on the technical steps required for this method. Therefore, the results and discussion section is not included in the body of the article but it is necessary to send the data that validates the method in the form of a section titled "Method Validation" along with the article. Article information includes: acknowledgments, authors' contributions, financial resources, data availability, ethical considerations, conflict of interest.

e) Short Communication:

These articles report the occurrence of a new scientific theory and its characteristics in a concise and focused manner without proving their theory by explaining the theory and referring to experiments, research, scientific achievements and new findings. Other features of this type of article include: emphasizing a specific aspect of a problem or a new finding, a new finding, in order to complete the published research achievements, such as presenting new documents on a subject, proposing a new hypothesis, presenting experiences, experiments and field observations regarding the investigation of a subject and the inference, discovery, interpretation, interpretation and reading of a new subject. The short report manuscript should be prepared as follows: title, structured abstract, keywords, introduction, methodology, findings, discussion, conclusion, references, tables, figure captions, figures (upload separately), list of appendices, appendices (upload separately). Article information includes: acknowledgments, authors' contributions, financial resources, data availability, ethical considerations, conflict of interest.

The abstract must represent the main content of the article and it must be a structured abstract and not more than 250 words. The abstract of the article should include the title of the article, introduction, materials and methods, findings, conclusion and keywords (three to five words selected from MeSH).

In preparing the abstract, the following points must be observed:

 15.2. Background and Aims

Original articles (quantitative and qualitative) includes the statement of the subject or phenomenon, the rationale of the study, as well as literature review related to the subject under study, the gap knowledge and current researches. Also, it is required to clearly state the research objectives at the end of the abstract. In qualitative articles, it is required to explain the necessity of studying the phenomenon in a qualitative way.

15.3. Materials and Methods

In the original quantitative articles, it is necessary to indicate the type of study, time and location of research, statistical population and sample population, sample size, sampling method and if necessary, study entry criteria, work method, sample selection conditions and the reasons, the methods of data collection and the explanation of the tools used and how to determine the validity and reliability of the tools, the statistical software and its version, the statistical tests used in data analysis and the reasons for its application. In case of using a questionnaire, it is mandatory to specify whether the questionnaire is a standard one made by others or made by the researcher.

In original qualitative articles, the method should include clear and complete information about:

 15.4. Results

In quantitative original articles:

Results should be in the form of text, tables, graphs or images in the order presented in the article, the data in the tables should not be repeated in the text. Tables must be referenced. The original graphs and curves should be set in Persian language. The title of the tables should be written in the upper part and the titles of the figures and diagrams should be written below them. In the case of using descriptive statistics, it is necessary to mention abundance values and percentage of abundance.

In original qualitative articles:

The findings section is explained according to the main question of the research and the support of the findings with narratives from the participants. Therefore, 1- At the beginning a brief report of the findings should be expressed based on the rhythm pattern and analysis method selected in the study, at each stage 2- Then the main groups, concepts or themes with their sub-groups are expressed and explained along with the direct quotes of the participants or recorded primary data. 3- Finally, in accordance with the research question or questions (the meaning or process of the studied phenomenon), the findings of the study should be explained, so that the meaning is explained or the basic theory derived from the study data and shows the logical and clear connection of the concepts, the theme are classes or main variables.

15.5. Discussion

In all kinds of original articles, this section should start with a brief introduction of the study and its main results, and then the author's interpretation of the most important findings of the study will be presented. The results should be compared with the findings of similar national and foreign studies. It is necessary to explain the author's reasoning about the differences and similarities between the results of the current study and the reviewed studies. Avoid discussing new findings that are not mentioned in the results section. At the end of the discussion, the strengths and weaknesses and limitations of the study should be mentioned. The limitations may be related to the generalizability of the results, the effectiveness of the independent variable on the dependent variable, the response rate of the questionnaire, the availability of samples and the problems of tools and data collection difficulties. Provide practical suggestions based on the results of the current study and future studies.

15-6. Conclusion

At the end of the article, in a section titled conclusion the final message of the article, which is the practical result of the article, should be clearly stated one or two paragraphs.

15.10. Conflict of Interest

Authors must clearly state any possible conflict of interest such as receiving money for writing the article, or obtaining stocks or shares in an organization that may be gained or lost regarding the publication of the article. A clear statement of conflict of interest does not lead to automatic rejection of the article, however we would like to know about it. If there is no conflict of interest, the following sentence should be added to the bottom of the article:

“No conflicts of interest are disclosed by the authors."

15.11. Acknowledgments

In this part, the institution that provides the budget, individuals or organizations that have cooperated in some way in conducting the study or writing the article are appreciated. Also, the ethical code of the relevant article, which is assigned by the university as IRCT, should be mentioned in this section. If there is no code of ethics, it will not be possible to accept the article.

 15.12. References

The list of references should be written using the Vancouver citation style (Numerical) and the number of the references should be written inside square brackets [ ] and before the punctuation mark at end of the sentence first time used in the article text. When several sources are mentioned, numbers should be written from left to right.

Citing References

References should be numbered numerically in accordance with the order of citation in the text in Vancouver style. References should preferably be prepared with EndNote software. In the sources, if there are six authors, the names of all of them are given, but if there are more than this, after mentioning the names of the first six authors, the phrase et al. must be added.
